It happened when Bob Stoops became head coach at Oklahoma. It happened when Nick Saban became head coach at Alabama. It happened when Mack Brown became head coach at Texas. It happens at many levels–high school, college, and professional. That is, a new head man makes a direct impact immediately on the program and either begins or continues a winning tradition. All three colleges had been struggling before Stoops, Saban, and Brown, respectively, arrived.The same thing can be said of Wisconsin-Whitewater. The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater is a small Division III school within the University of Wisconsin system and has an enrollment of 9,400 students. A few years ago the Warhawks hired Lance Leipold, a former UW-W quarterback and they haven’t looked back since. In his first year, Leipold led the Warhawks to the NCAA Division III Championship game, although they lost the title game. Last fall, UW-W won the championship, the first in the school’s history. This year they’re currently ranked second in the D-III poll, undefeated at 10-0.Leipold’s two years plus record: 37-3.Leipold has certainly paid his dues.
