Dive Triple Option

This is a triple option play with a passing option. It is very important that the QB makes his decision on who is getting the football very quickly so that you are not penalized for having an illegal man downfield.  This play begins looking like a regular triple option run play.  However, the backside A-Back, who is in motion, goes immediately to block the cornerback to the play side.  Meanwhile, the QB and B-Back go into their regular mesh.  The QB reads the first defensive lineman on or outside the playside OT (#1).  He will then either give the ball to the B-Back or pull it.  If the ball is pulled from the B-Back’s belly, the QB must immediately look to see where #2 is (his second read).  I tell the QB to look at #2 prior to the snap of the ball. If he is playing the WR close, then that option is immediately voided.  However, if the corner is playing back, then this option is viable pre-snap.  As the QB is coming out of his mesh (pull), he will then either replace the read and go upfield, or throw to his WR. This play can be devastating to any defense.
