DOES YOUR PISTOL-FLEX QB HAVE TO BE AN ATHLETE?

What are the qualities that make a great Pistol-Flex quarterback?  Suffice to say that there are many things that a QB in this offense must possess but the purpose of this article is to talk about just how athletic the ultimate Pistol-Flex quarterback must be.

The short answer is: YES!  He must be a good athlete at minimum but personally, I believe he should be one of the BEST athletes on the team!   The more athletic he is, the greater the chance he will be able to make a decent gain into a long yardage gain.  Speed and mobility are two key components that a coach must look for when assessing just how “athletic” potential quarterbacks are.  When all is said and done, if any play breaks down during its execution, having a great athlete at the helm will make the chances of a positive yardage play more realistic than if your QB is just “average” as an athlete.  I want my QB to not only be a great leader, but also a “game changer”.  I want my QB to WANT to keep that ball; I NEED him to keep that ball and to have the confidence that it is HE who will lead the team to victory!

Of course, there are other very important traits that the Pistol-Flex coach needs his QB to possess.  However, a great starting point in your search for that starting QB during Spring ball all comes down to who your best athletes are on the team.  By starting there, you WILL find your offense’s “Field General” for the upcoming season.
