Time to ENDURE

Character Matters Timeout: ENDURE

Coach

“Do not grow tired of doing well, for at the proper time you will receive the rewards if you do not give up.”

It has been said “It’s not how you start the race but how you finish.” This has been a staple of sports since sports originated. In order to finish anything one must have endurance.

To endure means to possess the qualities necessary to withstand hardships or stress and still continue on.

Endurance is how one responds to the tough times and still has a “finisher” mentality. As a coach, it is of the utmost importance to establish a “Play to the End” mentality in your players regardless of the scoreboard.

A team that has thoroughly been taught the meaning of endurance plays until the end, every time, win or lose. Resilience is taught. It is strategically grown in your players by you the coach. Are you coaching your players to play to the end, to carry on, to go the distance and to finish strong?

This is such a significant concept to understand because things are taught both intentionally and unintentionally. By not intentionally coaching the qualities, it gives way for a complacent mentality.

Instead be a coach that finishes. Teach endurance to your players and in the end you will find success in more than just the win-loss column at the end of the season.

BE EXCELLENT,

Wade Salem
