SITUATIONAL GAME PLANNING

After the Base / Mixed Down Game plan is complete, we begin work on what we call the ‘Situational Game plan’. Some situations do not ever change regardless of the team we are playing and other situations are changed drastically depending on the team and look we think we are going to get. Below is an outline for every situation that we game plan for on a weekly basis and the terminology we use for all of these:

1. 3rd Down

a. Super Long (+12)

b. Long (7-12)

c. Medium (3-6)

d. Short Yardage (-3)

2. Scoring Zone

a. Scoring Zone (25-10)

b. Tight Scoring Zone (10-5)

c. Goal line (-5)

3. 2-Minute/Hurry-Up Package

4. End of Game Package

a. Deep Sideline

b. Hail Mary

c. Lateral Play

d. Last Second FG

e. Tank / Take a Safety

f. Victory / Take a Knee

5. 2-Point Plays

6. Backed Up

7. 4-Minute Drill (Run Out the Clock)

DEFENSIVE BREAKDOWN

Before we address any of the items mentioned above with game planning, we do an extensive breakdown of the defense we are about to face. As many of you know, today’s technology and video editing systems have created more efficient film and breakdown reports than ever before. We value these breakdowns but because of how easy it is to run reports and the number or reports we tend to create, I sometimes feel overwhelmed by all of these numbers. Therefore, we have created a ‘Game plan Summary Report’ to get us started. Below is the summary:

* Injury Report / 2-Deep

o Ours

o Opponents

* Weather Forecast for Game day
