“Multiplicity and Balance with Great Tempo”

- MULTIPLE GROUPINGS
- There will be a wide variety and number of combinations of each position utilized. From 0-3 running backs to 0-3 Tight Ends, to 0-5 Wide Receivers.
- Plus extra linemen if available and different styles of Quarterbacks.
- MULTIPLE FORMATIONS
- There will be a variety of formations used with each grouping.
- Each formation is designed to attack a defensive alignment and take advantage of personnel matchups.
- MOTIONS & SHIFTS
- Basic motions are: 1. In 2. Short Across 3. Long Across 4. Across and back 5. Away 6. Jet
- Basic shifts: 1. 0ne position only 2. Multiple personnel
- USE A TAKE WHAT THEY GIVE US ATTITUDE
- Focus on the scheme of the defense and attack their weakness by using our looks and play selection or by using the audible system to put us in a better play.
- Use play calling to attack the weak link player/position in multiple ways.
- Get into unbalanced looks, overloaded movements, and flood our personnel to gain an advantage.
- BALANCE AND EFFICIENCY WITH BOTH RUN AND PASS
- Balance is measured more by yards than number of plays.
- Efficiency is measured by down and distance, field area, and the yardage needed.
- TEMPO’S
- Huddle – Regular, Hurry Up, and Look.
- No Huddle – Pace, 2 Minute, and Attack.
PERSONNEL TERMINOLOGY
TIGHT ENDS
Y – Primary TE that will always go to the strength call
B – 2nd TE, will align away from the call in ___ formations, is off the ball in ___ formations, and
aligns to the strength side off the ball in ___ formations.
V – 3rd TE, will always align away from the call on the LOS.
BACKS
T – Tailback, aligns behind the QB at 7 yds. depth
A – Ace back, aligns behind QB between 5-7 yds. depth, or at 6-8 yds. in “Gun”
F – Fullback, aligns 4 yards deep behind QB in “I”, in offset aligns between Guard & Tackle.
U – a 2nd Fullback/Wing TE style of player, aligns like an offset FB or a Wing TE
H – Halfback, is either a second TB or FB on the field.
QB – (QB in Gun) aligns 4.5 yds. behind center.
WIDE RECEIVERS
X – Split receiver, aligns away from strength call (except ___ formations).
Z – Split receiver, aligns as outside receiver to the call and as a slot away from the call
W – Waco, 3rd receiver, aligns to call in ___ formations, away from call in ___ formation.
R – Race, 4th receiver, aligns in TE position when there is no TE.
U – Utility, 5th receiver, aligns away from call in slot.
