AIR6OFFENSE

The Air6Offense’s origin dates back to the offseason after the 2008 season. I was the head football coach at Summit Christian Academy, and we were coming off a 2-8 season where we averaged only 32 points per game, which, in sixman football, isn’t a lot.

We had been running a standard “pro-style” sixman offense for 3 years, where we averaged 4 wins per season and 38 points per game. We needed to develop an exciting and explosive style of offense. I spent that offseason talking to sixman coaches from around the State of Texas, attending coaching clinics and simply just spending a lot of time with a pad and paper. The one thing that I kept coming back to was how could I marry the Air Raid offensive system with a power run game; so I bought a video series that Coach Hal Mumme put together on his Air Raid System, adapted its principles into the sixman game, and mixed in some of the power run game. Heading into the 2009 football season, the Air6Offense was born.

We saw instant success in 2009; we went 8-2 in the regular season, won our school’s first ever district championship in football, and went to the State Quarterfinals. We finished the 2009 season with a 9-3 record and averaged 53 points per game. Since the 2009 season, and the creation of the Air6Offense, my sixman teams have:

· Averaged 56 points per game

· Averaged 2000 yards passing per season

· Averaged 34 passing TDs per season

· Averaged 4 INTs per season

· Averaged 2460 yards rushing per season

· Averaged 46 rushing TDs per season

As Coach Hal Mumme says, “You must have a ‘great capacity for boredom.’” The Air6Offense isn’t just about the plays – it’s about The Process. This system is about the Practice Schedule, the Game Planning, Drills, and Techniques. For programs that are making the transition from 11-man football to Sixman football, the way this offensive system is put together, it will make that transition extremely smooth.
