Keys to Success – The Two-Task Method For Football Security

As If you grip the ball HIGH and TIGHT you will prevent a fumble!

As a twenty year high school varsity football coach, I drew upon any technique to improve productivity. The two-task method works while teaching any skill. The amazing Coach Tom Creguer state-of-the-art invention gives both coach and athlete one more technique for success.

When working as a Licensed Professional Counselor in schools and private practice, I used the two-task method daily. When a client or student entered my office, after greeting them, I would say,

“As you sit down and relax, we can discuss your concerns.” The language might change to age appropriate when counseling children, but the results are the same.

If a person sits down (Task 1) relaxation occurs (Task 2). The Quantum brain has no way of functioning with a “yes-no’ or “no-yes” response. However, it is simple to respond with a “no-no” response if something is against my free-will or value system. Thus, no technique works 100% of the time. But this is manipulation you say! True, but so is kindness, love, anger, sincerity, empathy, etc. This is a positive manipulation to reach a positive goal: No fumbles!

The embedded command, As & And is essential in developing new brain circuits in learning some new skill. When volunteering recently to coach football at a small public school in upper Michigan, my job was Offensive Coordinator. As usual, when athletes don’t know you and you don’t know them, gaining trust is a dominant factor. This was a school with great kids, but no winning football tradition.

In our second game of the season, I applied the two-task method to our Quarterback. Sometimes youngsters don’t really hear a coach. Before the game, I gained his attention and said, “As you step on the field tonight and play the game of your life, we will get a win.” He threw for 463 yards and had 4 or 5 passes dropped, some for touchdowns. The QB was on track for a 500 yard passing production and a winning game. We were playing against a large school and he tied the sixth place state record at the time.

To make this work for you with the HIGH and TIGHT football, simply use the exact connector words. AS & AND. When I instruct others about the Two-Task method, two things often occur:

1.      Both coaches and counselors will change AS to When.

2.      Both often refuse to practice the technique at home with family or with friends.

Example: AS When we finish our meal (Task 1) AND you fill the dishwasher (Task 2), I would appreciate it.

Coaches use repetition to develop skills. The two-task method takes repetition to gain confidence too! Neurolinguistic

Our hope remains that coaches will use the HIGH and TIGHT football by employing the exact words.

EMBEDDED COMMAND – “AS you grip the ball HIGH AND TIGHT you will prevent a fumble.”

Author: Mike Kanitz, Professor Emeritus, Central Michigan University

Schwartz and Begley (2002) clarify brain neuroplasticity and the power of mental force. AS & AND, plus the auditory sound of the HIGH and TIGHT football become guides for the brain. “These chunks help form coordinated, sequential motor outcomes and develop streams of thought and motivation,” they are quoted. Protect the football! The authors cite Ann Graybiel for the terms “chunks of action repertories.” These words and sounds initiate a complex behavior: Prevent the fumble!
