SAVAGE STORM INSIDE ZONE (Part II)

SAVAGE STORM INSIDE ZONE (Part II)

By Chad Speer, Offensive Coordinator

Southeastern Oklahoma State

We run multiple variations with our inside zone. We have our Zone, Zone Read, and our Zone Lead. In our Zone, we will always account for the playside flat area defender with a TE. The backside DE will be accounted for by the TE on the backside or the fullback, depending on the personnel we are in, which helps keep the backside rules consistent for those two positions. In our Zone Lead, we are telling our FB that he is leading on the playside flat area defender. We will only have a TE on the backside, where his rule is to seal the DE. In our Zone Read, we will account for the playside flat area defender with a TE or WR and will account for the backside DE by the QB reading him. If he squeezes, the QB will keep the ball and replace his initial alignment. If he comes upfield or squats, we will give the football to the RB.

Included are six diagrams that show our Zone, Zone Lead and Zone Read.
