Here is information on an effective stunt we have used in multiple fronts over the years. Credit for the stunt goes to Lincoln North Star (NE) DC and long time friend, Doug Nielson. The “Jake” stunt involves an inside LB stunting through the A gap. The stunt is run out of a reduction front where the center and guard are covered. We ran it out of our Eagle alignment but it also was effective out of our 5-3 front and our Hawk 6 man front that we used over the years.
The nose aligns head up on the center and works to the A gap away from the stunt. The DT/DE on the side of the stunt aligns head up on the guard and works hard to the B gap. The inside LB fires the A gap that is opened up by the defensive line movement. The LB can blitz from depth, or show at the LOS. As a change up, the defense can run a “Fake Jake” and show the stunt and then play gap control with the LB responsible for the A gap. Here are diagrams of the “Jake Stunt” being run from different defensive fronts.
